DuraFlex Chimney Repair Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Repair in Evanston: What to Know First

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney repair in Evanston, with most repairs quoted and scheduled within 48 hours. A written price, written scope, and written warranty are delivered before any work starts - Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, no exceptions. Typical DuraFlex jobs in Evanston run from mortar repointing on older DuraFlex SW stainless liners to full chimney rebuilds where the original clay flue has been retrofitted with DuraFlex AL29-4C and the surrounding masonry has deteriorated.

This page is for Evanston homeowners who know they’ve got a DuraFlex liner, cap, or component and need someone who can name the part, source it correctly, and show you the problem before asking for approval. We’re not DuraFlex-authorized. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider with no manufacturer restrictions on what we can tell you.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • DuraFlex SW (stainless wall) liners: The 316Ti alloy handles Evanston’s freeze-thaw cycles better than standard 304, but we still see seam separation at the flex-to-rigid transition where the liner exits the smoke chamber into the flue. This happens because the rigid tee can’t absorb the thermal expansion the flex section does. We cut back to sound metal, install a DuraFlex-approved expansion joint or transition piece, and pressure-test before we leave. The camera doesn’t negotiate - and neither does creosote.
  • DuraFlex AL29-4C (aluminized) liners: Rated for high-efficiency gas appliances, these fail at the top when condensation runs back down and pools at the collar instead of draining through the condensate tap homeowners didn’t know to keep clear. In Evanston’s lakefront historic district, we’ve found this on three jobs where the original installer never mentioned the tap. We clear the obstruction, inspect the lower sections for corrosion, and replace the collar if the aluminum has thinned.
  • DuraFlex Pro (smooth-wall) liners: The improved creosote shedding is real, but the smooth wall also hides spalling brick behind it that a basic flashlight inspection won’t catch. We pull a section of the Pro liner when we see mortar dust in the cleanout, document the spalling with the camera, and repoint before reinserting. Rebuilding the wall with the liner in place is possible but rarely worth the labor savings.
  • DuraFlex chimney caps: The mesh on standard DuraFlex caps is 5/8-inch, which is fine for most applications but clogs with cottonwood seed in June along Evanston’s greenbelt corridors. We stock Gelco and Famco caps with 3/4-inch mesh as alternatives, or we can clean and reset your DuraFlex cap with a raised lid for better airflow. Either way, you get photos of the before and after.
  • DuraFlex connector pipes and adaptors: The crimped male ends on DuraFlex connector kits fatigue at the crimp if they’ve been removed and reinstalled even once. We see this when homeowners or handymen disconnect for appliance swaps and don’t support the pipe properly. We replace with a new DuraFlex OEM connector or, if the appliance collar has also warped, fabricate a transitional piece from Olympia Chimney stock and document the deviation from factory spec in your written record.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process

Our DuraFlex Chimney Repair Process
  1. 1
Call and schedule. We answer live. You describe the DuraFlex product if you know it, the symptoms if you don’t. We book a Level 2 inspection with camera scan.
  2. 2
Inspection and documentation. Corrine or one of our uniformed techs runs the camera the full length of the flue, records the footage, and notes the DuraFlex series, condition, and any deviations from installation manual clearances. You watch the screen if you’re home.
  3. 3
Written price and scope. Before any tool touches your chimney, you get a written price, written scope, and written warranty - Haven Standard Clause 1. If the repair involves mixing DuraFlex parts with HeatShield or Gelco components, we note the compatibility basis and any warranty implications.
  4. 4
Parts procurement. We source DuraFlex OEM through Haven’s buying network when the repair demands it. For caps, adaptors, or transitional pieces where aftermarket meets spec, we use Olympia Chimney or Famco and tell you which is which before we order.
  5. 5
Repair and test. We complete the work, run a post-repair camera pass, and pressure-test or smoke-test as appropriate for the DuraFlex product involved. The photo record goes into your file - Haven Standard Clause 4, same as we’ve done since 2009.
  6. 6
Cleanup and record delivery. Written warranty, photo documentation, and invoice. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies from this date. If we missed something, we make it right.
